SAXE DAYTIME OPEN HOUSE LETTER

January 22, 2010

Dear Saxe Parent/Guardian,

You are invited to attend a "Daytime Open House" during the week of February 1, 2010.  The schedule below depicts the specific day, date and time for each team's open house.  Our format during the daytime open house replicates the core academic rotation portion of our traditional evening open house in October.  Parents spend approx. 10 minutes in each core classroom as they rotate amongst all four subjects:  Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.   Some Gr. 6-8 teams may decide to host the entire program in one single classroom.

You are asked to report to the team classroom noted on the schedule above.

Your child's teacher will take a few minutes to review team progress since our last open house; review team progress made thus far in regards to meeting local and state curriculum standards, address initiatives that have promoted an emotionally and physically safe learning environment using either the Aspirations Pyramid or other character/community building tools; and offer an academic introduction to the 3rd marking period.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

January 20^th - Feb 2 ^nd
Online request form for Honors/AP consideration available on Transition page of 8^th grade counseling site until end of school day Feb 2^nd.

Thursday, Jan 28 ^th
HS Asst. Principal Larry Sullivan present to 8^th graders and provide overview of HS (during school day).

  AP/Honors Night - New Canaan High School - 7:00 pm
(Any student considering taking an AP or Honors class is encouraged to attend   with a parent).  Snow Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

UPDATE!  AP Honors Night will be combined with Eight Grade Parent-Student Orientation Night!  Parents may visit the AP classrooms after the General Meeting at 7:00 PM.

Deadline to submit online form requesting to sit for the Honors placement tests.

Eighth graders complete elective selections Course Selection Forms in Social Studies classes with middle school and high school counselors (math, world language and honors placements will already be entered on forms).  Forms with parent signatures are due back to eighth-grade counselors by April 23^rd.

Friday, April 23 ^rd
Deadline for return of signed course selection forms and Academic Placement Appeals forms to eighth
grade counselors.
